Communities Fund applications open

What is the Communities Fund? A £2.5m pot over the next 2 years from DCLG to provide funding to local authorities working with community groups to deliver solutions to entrenched social issues for example relating to:

• Early intervention and high cost individuals

• Adult social care

• Children's Services

• Employment Support

No extension to council tax referendum principles

Council tax referendum principles have not been extended to parish and town councils in 2017/18.

The secretary of state for communities and local government has just announced the provisional local government finance settlement for 2017/18 in the House of Commons, an extract from his speech is below:

Survey: opinions on extending Dependants’ Carers’ allowance to parish and town councillors

The National Association of Local Councils has adopted a longstanding policy position that parish councillors should have the same rights as principal authority councillors to be able to claim the Dependants' Carers' allowance.
